The Big Leaf Maple Tree (latin: Acer macrophyllum) is a brilliant contestant in the fall colours showdown – its bright green leaves shifting to vivid yellows, oranges, and reds.

Though not as ‘efficient’ as the sugar maple at making maple syrup, I successfully made a delicious, richly dark maple syrup from the Big Leaf Maple while living on Vancouver Island.

The Maple Tree is a symbol of strength and endurance, tolerance and love.
